Tim’s Official Bio

I’m the founder and host of Australia and New Zealand’s number one business and marketing podcast – The Small Business Big Marketing Show, which can also be found on all Virgin Australia domestic and international flights.

Having launched this hit program seven years ago and with well over 300 episodes under my belt, it regularly ranks on iTunes above the Australian Stock Exchange, Alan Jones, Tim Ferris and even outranks Harvard Business School as the number one business marketing podcast.

I have built a global audience of motivated business owners in 110 countries, and I’m also the author of The Boomerang Effect, a popular marketing text. Prior to this, I was the marketing manager for Flight Centre and spent ten years working in Australia’s largest advertising agency looking after the advertising needs of Gillette, AXA, Yellow Pages and Dulux.

I was also instrumental in helping AFL legend Jim Stynes raise one million dollars for his youth charity, Reach.

I now travel the world (having spoken at 63 conferences in eight countries in the past 12-months) showing business owners and marketers how to embrace modern marketing methods – gaining success and increasing profits, without spending a fortune.

The bottomline? There’s never been a better time to market anything. Ever!

Tim’s Unofficial Bio

I think the field of small business marketing is overrun by confusing, hyped-up and sometimes inexperienced consultants promising the world, and delivering little.

The little they do deliver leaves the poor old small business owner, who’s working their ring off to turn their baby in to the empire it deserves to be, with a bad taste in their mouth about the whole marketing thing.

Promises abound of getting to and staying at the top of Google, of building a social media following to match any Hollywood A-lister and creating email lists in the tens of thousands, make me want to throw up.

If this is what you’re trying to get away from then I reckon I’d like you.

The one thing I loved the most as I spent 22-years cutting my teeth inside corporate Australia, was when a small business owner asked me for marketing advice. They were grateful, interested and more often than not implemented it to great effect. They took action! No meetings. Just good old action, Jackson! When one particular owner looked me in the eyes and said “without your advice I would have had to shut the doors”, I was hooked.

I now spend my waking business hours shining a very bright light on the dark art many call marketing.

I do this via my popular podcast (The Small Business Big Marketing Show) available in iTunes and on all Virgin Australia national and international flights, from stage, and via my ridiculously easy to read and implement book – The Boomerang Effect

I’m a friendly fella, I charge reasonable fees and don’t give a crap about a project unless the people in it are fun to be with. I hate corporate speak (don’t ever suggest we take this discussion offline ;0) and office politics also makes me nauseous.

I just want small business owners to develop a respect for the power of marketing. To view it as a hobby. Something they love doing, and are happy to throw a few bucks at.

I married Sophie 20-years ago, father three kids and a dog (his name’s Mr Charlie Bucket), drive a Merc (woo-hoo), and frickin love the beach. Seriously, I love the beach. If you think we’d be good friends, find a way to say hi. If not, go get ‘em anyway

Tim is a marketing genius. In more than 30 years in financial services, I have never seen anyone who comes close to providing the breadth of knowledge, unbound enthusiasm and practical advice that Tim offers. I sat spellbound through a 90-minute presentation, and came away with a mountain of ideas …
